How to add subtitles to your video

If you have already created a transcript with segments, you can simply export this as subtitles (closed captions) too. Now let's learn how you can place specific subtitle segments over the entire project. If most of your transcript fits your subtitle needs, you could also just add some subtitle segments, and our export function will then merge both of them for you.

In contrast to transcripts, where the segments have the same start/endpoint in all the languages, your subtitles can be totally independent in between the different languages. You can also add different “voices," so every speaker’s /information can be separated into separate srt/wtt files (more on this later on).

So, let's get started!

1. Create a voice by clicking “+ Add New Voice” button, located to the right of the “View” options

Once you create this, you will see a change in the timeline:

2. Click the "+" button to create a segment for this voice:

If you add more voices you will see a new track - with a different color - in the timeline.

3. Now click into a segment that you whish to change or add text to and you can edit it in the field located directly above the timeline:

You can also click into the Side-By-Side editor for translating and editing your existing subtitle segments. We will cover the Side-By-Side editor in another tutorial:

Once you are done with the subtitles, you can export them as SRT or WebVTT files. Please make sure you select the right format you want to proceed with as they are very different in the features, especially when it comes to "Voices".
