How do Credits work?
Types of Credits
There will be two types of credits depending on how they are bought.
a) Recurring-Credits are valid for one period¹ only. They don't stack and they have the highest priority when paying for services.
b) Extra-Credits are credits users can buy on their own as one-time payments. They never expire and have the lowest priority when paying for services.
Which metered resources use credits
The following resources will be credits-based:
- Storage
- Traffic
- Encoding
- STT
- TTS
- MTL
- Video-Download
How much credits are used for each resource
How storage is billed with credits
Storage cost: 1 credits per HD minute per month
Storage is calculated based on stored minutes per month, where minutes are the video or audio minutes. For other kinds of data, e.g. images, we don't bill storage. Storage will be calculated and billed right after the subscription credits are refreshed. The period storage is charged for is the same as the last subscription period, which is a month monst of the time, but can also be less in case of plan up/downgrades.
Removed assets and newly uploaded assets will be partially billed depending on the removal/upload dates.
Storage Minute Aggregation Example
The user has 160 minutes of HD video, uploads a new 40 minute HD video at 10th of January and at 20th of January a 10 minute HD video was deleted after being flagged for removal. On 1st of February we would calculate the following storage costs.
current = 160 min (The amount at time of storage calculation, including the recently added data, excluding the removed data)
added = 40 min at day 9 of 31 (The part of the recently added data that needs to be excluded)
removed = 10 min at day 20 of 31 (The part of the removed data that needs to be included)
current - added + removed = 155 credits (rounded up)
Traffic
Traffic is calculated in streamed Gigabyte units. We bill traffic for each GB that is used, continuously throughout the month, but only counting the current month. The unbilled rest of the tracking is reset to 0 at the end of the month, so there is a slight amount of traffic we gift to the user. Each time traffic is generated we check the users total traffic for the current month, subtract the already billed traffic and for each full GB of the resulting number the user will be billed. We check the traffic only once per hour.
Encoding / STT / TTS / MTL / Video-Download
Those resources are all minute based and paid upfront, so they all follow the same approach. The minutes are calculated and billed before the operation is processed. If there was an error in the operation, we make sure to undo the billing transaction and restore the credits.
type | credit cost per minute |
---|---|
encoding | 12 |
STT | 20 |
TTS | 20 |
MTL | 10 |
Video-Download | 10 |
Checking the Balance
Details on the user's credit balance, used credits, remaining credits and transactions that have been paid with credits are available on each user's payment tab. It is available at https://alugha.com/producer/{userId}/payment. There you can also check when your next period¹ starts.
Out of Credits
Once your balance hits 0, all your videos will only be available in the lowest resolution and all credits based features will be inaccessible. The user will still be able to use alugha to watch other videos. There won't be negative credits. Users are notified before the credits reach 0. Users are able to buy new credits to make the videos available again.
Adding Credits
- A user can buy credits via one-time payments
- Credits are bound to the account and can not be transfered to any other account
- There will be a discount for buying large amounts of credits in a single transaction
The amount of credits that a user is able to buy with a single purchase has its limits. For any purchase, the minimum amount to be bought is 1,000 credits (€5). On the other end, the maximum amount per purchase is limited to 2,222,222 credits (€10,000).
